Bishan Wate is a privately owned washing station located in Hambella, in Ethiopia’s West Guji zone. Established in 2017, it is owned and managed by Testi Coffee, a family-run specialty coffee producer and exporter founded by Faysel Abdosh Yonis. Testi operates a network of washing stations across Ethiopia’s renowned coffee-growing regions, working closely with smallholder farmers who deliver freshly harvested cherries each season.

The name Bishan Wate reflects its surroundings: Bishan means “water,” while Wate is the river that runs through the station and plays an important role in processing the annual harvest.

Sitting at around 2,000 metres above sea level, Bishan Wate receives freshly picked cherries from approximately 600 smallholder farmers, with farms located between 1,900–2,050 MASL. The high elevation and cool climate allow cherries to ripen slowly, contributing to greater density, sweetness and complexity in the cup.

This lot is made up of local landrace varieties, traditional Ethiopian coffee populations that have adapted to the local environment over generations, reflecting the remarkable genetic diversity of Ethiopian coffee.

Processed using an Improved Washed method, Testi’s careful approach to cherry selection and processing highlights the clarity and aromatic character of this high-altitude coffee.

In the cup, delicate floral aromatics lead into a crisp lime acidity, followed by sweeter orange notes as the coffee cools, with a refined green tea character through the finish. Clean, bright and highly aromatic, it is a beautiful expression of high-elevation
