Buku Abel is located in the highlands of Guji, within the Hambela area — one of Ethiopia’s most recognised regions for expressive and refined natural coffees. Coffees from this area are typically grown by smallholder producers at high elevation, where cool temperatures and slow cherry maturation help build sweetness, aromatic complexity and a clean cup structure.
This Grade 1 natural lot shows a beautifully composed side of Ethiopian coffee. Rather than being heavy or overly fermented, this Buku Abel is lifted, floral and fruit-driven, with a dark berry sweetness and a refined black tea finish.
After harvesting, ripe cherries are carefully sorted and dried whole, usually on raised African beds. This natural process allows the coffee seed to absorb more fruit character during drying, creating a cup with greater sweetness, layered aromatics and a more rounded texture.
In the cup, expect delicate florals at the front, followed by dark berries and a gentle, tea-like structure. The finish is clean and elegant, carrying a black tea character that balances the fruit sweetness and gives the cup a refined, composed feel.
For us, this is a natural Ethiopian coffee with restraint and clarity. It has the expressive fruit character we love from Guji, but without losing elegance. Floral, dark-berried and tea-like — a clean and beautifully structured natural coffee.
